    Semilla Collective Food Garage (semillacollective.org) is helping to redistribute food to ~300 families/week in New Haven.     The Semilla Collective of New Haven is a grassroots collective formed in the Fall of 2019 to fight side by side with immigrant and working families, and to host cultural events in our community. Our founding group includes workers, community organizers, healthcare workers, public school educators, legal professionals, students, parents, artists, and more. A diverse group of immigrants and immigrant allies living on Quinnipiac land in New Haven, we are using our collective imagination to build a better world for future generations.

    Support people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 Pandemic by volunteering at the City of New Haven’s Blake Field Drop-In Center. The drop-in center, located at Blake Field in East Rock, will function as a triage site to identify and provide resources to people experiencing homelessness while connecting them to medical and behavioral health services, as well as providing basic services like food, showers, clothing. The center will continue to open through June 26th.

  • Driver to give rides to seniors for critical care (non-COVID)

    Interfaith is urgently looking for volunteer drivers to give medical rides to seniors for critical care (e.g. dialysis, etc.). These seniors are NOT feeling ill; they just have a critical chronic condition. Volunteer drivers will pick up clients at their residential address, drive them to the healthcare center where they receive critical care, and drive them home after appointment. Interfaith will be providing volunteers and clients with PPE. To ensure safety of both drivers and clients, all drivers have to be registered with Interfaith as a volunteer and go through criminal background and driving record checks. Gas cost incurred will be reimbursed.

    Loaves and Fishes is a member of the Connecticut Food Bank and an affiliate member of the New Haven Food Policy Council. Loaves and Fishes has opened a food pantry in response to the COVID19 crisis. We are rapidly scaling up to meet the need and each week there is going to be new opportunities to get involved at Loaves and Fishes as we deliver to more of our neighbors and have more folks come to our pantry.     The New Haven Pride Center is excited to launch a new food distribution program that will kick-off on Saturday, May 23rd and last till July 11th (unless funding changes). After concluding the recent LGBTQ+ Needs Assessment Survey, the Center found that food insecurity was the number one issue affecting Connecticut's LGBTQ+ community. In hopes of combating this issue - the Center has launched this program.

    Pills2me is looking for volunteers who are at least 18 years of age, but less than 65 years old. The role of the volunteers will be to help pick up medications for the elderly and other patients who are at high risk of developing complications from the coronavirus. The volunteers must be in good health and have no risk factors for COVID-19 as outlined by the CDC guidelines. The volunteers can register on our website www.pills2me.com with their availability. Once we get a patient request, we will reach out to available volunteers who will then confirm if they can fulfill the request. We have a driver protocol on our website on how to safely carry out the delivery while maintaining social distancing.
    The elderly and other vulnerable patients can request a free same day medication delivery by registering on our website www.pills2me.com. Once we receive the request, we will connect them with a volunteer driver who will help deliver their medication to their doorstep.

    (1) SOCIAL MEDIA CREATION / FEEDBACK: Volunteers to help advise or create social media posts for Instagram, including giving feedback on pictures, coloring, messaging, etc. A background in design is not required.

    (2) INSTAGRAM PROMOTION: Volunteers to promote our new Instagram page through their own personal and/or professional networks by liking and sharing posts, tagging peers, and sending DMs. The size of your personal IG network can be smaller or large. We are particularly looking to promote our new effort among young adults, scientists, teachers, students, parents, immigrant communities, people of color, disability advocates, nurses, doctors, and other first responders.

    Moving With H.O.P.E. (MWH) is a 501c3 non-profit that provides essential rehab, adaptive exercise, and life skills training to people living with moderate to severe physical disabilities in Greater New Haven and Greater Bridgeport. In response to COVID-19, we are partnering with local scientists, community leaders, and youth activists to provide essential supplies, food, and information.

    Living in southern Connecticut is not required for these volunteer positions. We are hoping to promote our effort regionally / nationwide.
